A Gathering of Eagles
The Golden Triangle Composite Squadron 603, Pennsylvania Wing shared honors with the West Mifflin High School ROTC on Saturday 02 February 2008, during "A Gathering of Eagles" ceremony at the Senator John Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh. The Cadets formed an Honor Guard for the event's posting of the colors and both groups of cadets, well trained and ready for their individual performances, executed their respective tasks in outstanding manner. CAP members were pleased to honor Western Pennsylvania's members of the Tuskegee Airmen and felt good fortune at have the opportunity to meet and talk to these great men who were important history makers during World War Two. The singing of The National Anthem by ROTC Cadet Mikenna Manspeaker and CAP C/Major Mike Bilz was flawless during the opening of the day's ceremony and emotionally moved the attendees as they joined in singing with the two cadets.
It is hard to imagine what the Tuskegee Airmen went through to
prove to our nation that they were ready, willing and able to stand up
and die
for a country
divided on the racial issue. The Tuskegee Airmen who served from
1941-1949 were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest
civilian award bestowed by Congress.
The award acknowledges individuals who perform an outstanding deed of service to security, prosperity, and national interest.
