Basic Communication Support Course Mission Radio Operator
This is a new course that HMRS is offering! Students will be instructed on how to become CAP mission radio operators with VHF & HF radios with a focus on both Mission Base and Field Operations; comm equipment set up/operation and remote comm relay stations. ROA certification class will be provided. Since there will be student participation in the field, Comm students will receive training in Woodsman ship skills, some search techniques, navigation & map reading (may receive credit towards GTM & UDF SQTR training in addition to their MRO) learn team deployment skills, and basic survival skills; Other classes include moral leadership, character development, casualty evacuation, and rappelling. Search and Rescue skills will practice during several search simulations. A three-day field training exercise is conducted away from base camp. This exercise will include extensive hiking with full equipment and be tasked as an MRO to support a Squadron on the FTX. Communication Students have the option to progress through the Ranger 3rd and 2nd Class levels as team members.
