Summer Ranger School Cadet Staff Training Course

(Romeo Squadron)

This Squadron follows an accelerated Cadet Staff Training Curriculum. This Squadron is designed for out of state cadets who are unable to attend the standard 8-weekend Staff Training Program held at Hawk Mountain.

This course compresses the standard 8 weekends of intense staff training into 9 days.  Students will be pushed to their limits both physically and mentally as they are taught, hands-on, a variety of skills including leadership, team management, effective teaching techniques, the importance of duty and commitment, SAR skills, advanced navigation, and woodsmanship.  During the field exercise, students act as team commanders for a basic squadron.  After the field exercise, students will immediately begin a survival hike, which will test all skills including navigation ability, endurance, survival techniques, and self-confidence.  Students who complete this course will be awarded their Yellow Scarf.

Successful completion of this course is not the end of the training program. Cadets who complete the Summer Ranger School Staff Training Course will be invited back the following year to function as a Ranger Staff Cadet in an entry level position.
