Founded in 1956, Hawk Mountain Ranger School is the longest running Search & Rescue school in the country.  Students as young as 13 and through adulthood are faced with challenging tasks and intense training, both in leadership and practical skills.  The confidence gained through facing these challenges prepares graduates to face challenges not only in SAR, but in all aspects of life.

Throughout the training, students embody the CAP core values.  Integrity, to the point of letting go of personal desires is the main focus of the Ranger Creed, which concludes:

"These things I do, that others may live..."

The Ranger Creed

It is my duty as a member of the Rangers of the Civil Air Patrol ground search and rescue service, to save lives, aid the injured, and protect their property.

In order to do this, I will keep myself physically fit at all times.

I will be prepared at all times to perform my assigned duties quickly and efficiently, placing these duties before my personal desires and comfort.

These things I do that others may live...

Participate in Ranger activities

and earn ES Ratings!!

Ranger Grades require completion of corresponding ES Specialty Qualifications, such as GTM 3, GTM 2, GTM 1, GTL, UDF, MRO, CLU...  At every Ranger activity, complete tasks on the SQTR!  Ranger Staff members hold ES Specialty Qualifications, including SET.
