Rope Training Tower Project click here for updates on construction
Expert Rangers and Master Medics (new and old). On behalf of our newly field promoted school commander, Lieutenant Colonel Herb Cahalen, I would like to thank you for your incredible support with the 50th Anniversary of Hawk Mountain Ranger School. The effects of your presence go beyond description, not only for the cadets and staff cadets, but for the National Command representation on the mountain that week. They not only saw how deep the effects of The Mountain on careers and life decisions run, but that the strong bonds that formed over the past fifty years survived the test of time. As mentioned on Thursday night during the Belt Reunion, your support is still needed. Everyone leaves this mountain with individual memories and their own special moments, whether it be the triumph of a dry OC, or the 9 days straight of pouring rain. The one common denominator on most cadet’s experiences was the Jump Tower. Either rappelling or the slide for life, the Jump Tower was a monumental structure of courage and the overcoming of fear. Over the years weather, time and cadets have taken their toll on the Tower and it was deemed unsafe and destroyed. With all the construction and growth you have seen of the present day Col Phillip Neuweiler Ranger Training Facility, the keystone to the upgrades will be the completion of a 60 + foot rappelling and climbing tower. The goal of the Commander is to be able to construct and donate this tower on behalf of all the Expert Rangers and Master Medics, those who have reaped the benefits of this hallowed ground, this swamp we all have called home. The support you lend to the creation of this Tower is not counted in dollars and cents but in the spirit of community. However, your donation of dollars makes sense and is what allows the Tower committee to continue to make this Hawk Mountain tradition a reality for the fifty-first year. I challenge each of you to donate! We need to show our support of our program! To date we have received over $30,000.00 in donations and more in pledges from our own members and a very generous pledge from National Headquarters CAP. Semper Fi, J.J.
